Day 1 of the Australian B14 National Championships got underway with the Briefing at noon today. The Fleet were semi ready for racing as the first of two fronts approached Port Phillip Bay.

10 boats turned out for the Phaedrus Estate, Victorian State Title at McCrae on the weekend.

Race 1 was sailed in a dying northerly leaving a lumpy sea and about 10knots of wind. The first start was hotly contested with all boats pushing hard for a clean start which resulted in a general recall. The next start under a black flag got away cleanly for all but Ron and Alex sailing Last Gasp AUS379. The race was tightly contested all the way around with Brent and Leigh sailing Switch AUS375 claiming first just ahead of Bangers and Lachy, Bonus AUS793 and Stuart and Ben, AUS781 in third.

Race 2 with the wind dying further and the tide starting to have an effect, favoured the left hand side of the course. Once again Brent and Leigh had a great start and lead from start to finish with Bangers and Lachie second. Third was the two World Champion crew's sailing together (is this a sign of things to come?) Nick and Gracey in Siren AUS378.

Reminder it's the inland championships at Datchet this coming weekend.

With an earlier than usual date for the Inlands it looks like a rather unusual event for us.. Warm and 8-15 knots.. Not sure our brains will cope with the change but it is nice that it wont be fresh to frightening ala Queen Mary last year.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible. Great club and a long overdue return for the class. Hopefully we will see a good turnout :)

STOP PRESS - I have just seen that Camping is permitted at the club for Saturday night.. no excuses not to come now ;)
