The 2018 Phaedrus Victorian Championship has been run and won at Safety Beach Sailing Club. Going down to the wire in the last race of the regatta. After a light Northerly breeze held the fleet ashore on day 1. The southerly change kicked in on day 2 providing a nice 15-17 knot south westerly breeze which the whole fleet enjoyed. Craig Garmston and Paul Newman (2 wins and 1 second) led Guy Bancroft and Louie Chapman by 1 point. (2 seconds and 1 win). Dave Loutit and Dave Grace were running 3rd on 10 points. Jason Dunsmore sailing with Dave Cunningham showed some great boat speed at times in only his second time in steering a B14 were in fourth position.
Day 3 started again with a nice South Westerly around 15 to 18 knots. Bangers and Louie took race 4 to level the series with Garmston and Newman 2nd. Race 5 was won by Garmston and Newman from Bangers and Louie 2nd. leaving the penultimate race to the to decide the Victorian Championship. And it went down to the wire when Craig Garmston held on to win amongst imense pressure from Bangers to win the final race by the narrowest of margins by 5 seconds.
Ian Cunningham replaced Jason Dunsmore on day 3 after pulling out injured, Ian's presence in the heavier condition's would take Bonework to the podium placing 3rd for the regatta. Dave Loutit and Dave Grace were to finish 4th. Ewan and Tori Campbell were to go and finish 5th but were not far away from the front bunch and were clearly in front of Ron Kane and Alex Albert. B14 newcomer Glenn Lazaar finished in 7th rounding out the fleet in his first B14 Regatta. A big thankyou to the Safety Beach Sailing Club and their sailing commititee led by International Race officer Geoff Eldridge for hosting the event.
