Welcome, to the southern Hemisphere rotation of the B14 World Championships. The class this year is well supported by local, national and international supporters this year and the championships is looking to be a boon for the Northern Tasmania Region.
The championships are being held in partnership with the Port Dalrymple Yacht Club at Beauty Point and are the first sailing world championships ever to be held in Northern Tasmania.
In strong winds the B14 provides some of the fastest most competitive racing. The large wings level the competitive field allowing male and female, mixed weight combinations to compete on an even playing field. The B14 is in many ways the link between the big league 18-foot skiff sailing and other sailing classes. Our role as a class is to continue to encourage sailors, in particular maturing youth sailors to transition into the class. The class is the perfect mix of high performance sailing at a cost effective price range. It provides amateur sailors who have a desire to compete at a local, national and international level the perfect semi-professional solution for a sailing career.
Sailors racing in B14’s experience high adrenaline, fast acceleration and at times big capsizes that add to the attractiveness of the on water-racing exhibition. This provides a great spectator potential for tourists and connected family members to watch and enjoy the racing. The class itself provides exhilarating fast paced and action packed racing and provides a great platform for daily filming and spectating. Check out our YouTube page AUSB14TV for footage on what you could look forward to and to check out the daily filming throughout the championships.
34 competitors are registered for the competition from the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia. The Australian open championship commences on 27 December and runs through to 30 December 2017. Two days break will then give sailors a chance to do some local exploration throughout the Tamar region before coming back fresh to commence the World Championships on 2 January through to 6 January 2018
