The 9th Tasmanian B14 State Titles were run by Midway Point Yacht Club over the weekend 26th - 27th March. Former dual National and runner up World Champion Nick Richardson won the series but not without some close tussles during the 8 race series. As is always the case with B14s the racing was very close with most races only decided in the last few metres, this proved exciting for the spectators and great fun for the sailors.

So that was a big day. Got out on the water and popped the kite. boat feels good. By the start the breeze had picked up to a solid 22 to 25 knots and there were more boats upside down that the right way up. Got off the line first in the devil and headed for the top mark. So many boats weren't on the line that we managed to get up around the top mark in first position. at the mark we were on the bare away when we heard a mighty big crack, rounded the boat up and tipped over. Nothing broken but feeling like there was too much on than the boat could take, we headed for the shore.

The Australia Day Regatta was held on the 26-01-11 for the 175th time. It is the oldest annual sailing regatta in the world and still going strong. Many events are planned each year from Offshore yacht racing, historic 18ft skiff racing to Ferry Racing it is always a celebration held near the water. While many families head to the nearest beach or council area for a breakfast and some thong throwing contests the sailors head to the clubs perpetuating the tradition of when Australia was founded.
